What is Total Revenue?

Total Revenue (often called Sales) is the total amount of money a company generates from selling its goods or services over a specific period. It's the top-line figure you see on a company's income statement before any costs or expenses are subtracted.

Why is Total Revenue important?

Total Revenue is a key indicator of a company's growth. By looking at how the revenue changes over time, investors can quickly see if a company's sales are increasing or decreasing. While it doesnโ€™t show how profitable a company is, a healthy and growing revenue is often the first sign of a strong and in-demand business. It's the starting point for deeper financial analysis.

How is Total Revenue calculated?

Think of a company that sells dates. If it sells 500 boxes of dates at $10 each, its Total Revenue is $5,000.

The formula is very straightforward:
Total Revenue=Number of Items Sold ร— Price per Item

Total Revenue = 500 ร— $10= $5000
